Our pets are like family to us and the boys love giving them treats every now and then.  When I heard about PetCakes from Lucky Paws, I couldn’t wait to try them!  These yummy treats are made of all natural and organic ingredients and are cooked right in your own home using your microwave!  How neat is that?  I received the Original Carob PetCakes kit for dogs and the Cheese Nip PetCakes kit for cats as well as their frosting mix and refill packs.

First of all, I have to say my kids LOVED these kits!  They thought it was so cool that we were making treats for our pets.  We started out with the dog kit.

They were super easy to make.  We just combined the mix with some water and a Tablespoon of peanut butter.  I sprayed the dog bone pan with cooking spray and then poured the batter in.  We popped them in the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes and voila…fresh doggie treats!

We let them cool for about 10 minutes but I think we needed to let them cool a little longer because we had a little trouble getting the first “bone” out.  I put the tray into the freezer for a few minutes and the other two came out just fine.  We decided to make the yogurt flavored frosting as well.  As you have to do is add water and mix.

The frosting tends to thicken pretty quickly so make sure your treats are ready to frost before you mix it.  The kids couldn’t wait to give them to the dogs.

They were a huge hit!  Sammie and Maggie quickly ate them up and licked up any remaining crumbs on the floor!

We made the cat treats next.  The only difference was that you add a Tablespoon of tuna instead of the peanut butter.

Our cat Daisy loved the treats just as much as the dogs did.  We really enjoyed making these as a family and I liked knowing that our pets were getting fresh, quality treats!  The PetCake mixes contain no wheat, corn or soy.  I also like that you can get creative with them.  You can feed the treats to your pet plain, with the frosting or create your own recipes.  The website suggests slicing one of the treats in half length wise and spreading some peanut butter on one half and unsweetened applesauce on the other to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  Clean up was easy too since the PetCake pans are dishwasher safe.

We love our cats but dealing with their litter box is no fun.  It’s a constant battle to keep the odor away.  We’ve tried many different types of litter and litter boxes with little to no luck.  I hate the though of guests coming over and smelling the litter box.  When I got the chance to review Fresh Air Premium Cat Litter by Pet Loo, I jumped on it!

This new litter doesn’t just reduce the odor, it eliminates it!  Other litters on the market using a clumping formula to prevent urine from sinking to the bottom of the box.  This is the type of litter we had been using.  It does make it easy to remove the urine but there is still an odor and we had to check the box at least once a day if not twice.  Fresh Air uses a Patented Odor Eliminating Pad™ that prevents bacteria growth in the litter box and does not require any removal of clumps.  The non-clay litter eliminates urine at the molecular level by trapping ammonia and converting it into nitrogen and water that is then evaporated.  This is healthier not only for our cats, but also for our family.  The system was easy to use.

You simply put the pad on the bottom of the litter box and then pour the litter on top.  I admit I was a little skeptical at first.  After all, we had tried so many other litters already.  I have to say though, that after using the litter for two weeks, I am a believer!  It really works!  We keep our litter box in the basement bathroom which is next to the boys’ room and playroom.  I used to be able to smell the litter box as soon as I got to the bottom of the steps.  Not anymore!  There truly is no odor!  Another great thing about this litter is that each pad lasts two months!  I also appreciate the fact that the litter is made from an all natural inert mineral that is 100% safe (even if ingested accidentally by the pet).  I would suggest pouring the litter in the box outside since there was some dust when we poured it.

Our dogs Sammie and Maggie love treats and they both love a good bone to chew on.  However, they aren’t big fans of rawhide.  We’ve even tried the flavored rawhide bones but they just don’t care for them.  Apparently, they aren’t alone.  Three out of ten dogs do not chew any form of rawhide and therefore, do not benefit from the dental-health benefits that come from chewing or enjoy the mental stimulation of chewing a good knotted dog bone.  I have also read that rawhide may not be the best choice for dogs anyway since there are question about it’s digestibility and whether or not it poses a choking hazard.  Smart Bones has the answer!  Here’s a little about their products from their website:

These were a hit!  Maggie loved the Smart Stick and Sammie went to town on the Smart Chip!
