To celebrate the first full day of Autumn, I wanted to share my new fall themed artwork I received from Fulcrum Gallery.  Fulcrum Gallery offers thousands of great works of art including both original and open edition fine-art prints.  The site is easy to navigate and I like that you can search by style, subject, room, or artist.  You can then narrow your search by size, shapes and color.  I knew I wanted something fall related to hang above our fireplace so I searched their seasonal art.  There were SO many great prints!  I narrowed it down to about 10 and then had my hubby help me pick.  We finally settled on A Country Home During Autumn by Billy Jacobs.  It reminded me of fun fall days in the country and matched our decor.  Another great thing about Fulcrum Gallery is that they offer a variety of framing for your art.  The process is very user friendly.  You can scroll through all the options and see a preview of each selection before deciding.  You can get framing with matting or without.  I chose a 1 1/4″ black frame.  About a week later my order arrived.

The piece arrived well packaged.

The front of the print is covered with an acrylic plexiglass.  This protects the print but doesn’t make it super heavy.

P_20140901_150157

The back of the piece had hangers for easy mounting.

I appreciated the little details, like the felt padding on the bottom edges that prevent the frame from scratching the wall.

I hung the print above the fireplace and put a fall swag right above it.  I love how it looks!

I am super pleased with my print!  I love that Fulcrum Gallery offers full service from beginning to end.  In addition to framing, you can also choose canvas or laminated prints.  I saw several prints that would be good for the kids’ rooms and the laminating option would be perfect for them.  Of course, you can also just purchase the standard print as well if you’d like.

Fulcrum Gallery offers many styles to choose from, including classical, unique, contemporary, and modern art, just to name a few.  They also have a great selection of both black and white and color photography.

Whether you’re looking for seasonal art like me, or a great motivational print, Fulcrum Gallery has you covered!

Are you in the market for a new print?  What type of art do you like?

I’m a big fan of hand print and foot print art for kids.  They make great keepsakes and gifts for relatives.  I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you all!  The first is a hand print Santa.  You paint the thumb and top of palm red, leaving the very tip of the thumb dry.  Then you paint a thin strip of white right below that.  Paint the middle of the palm peach (I mixed orange and white to get the right color).  Finally, paint the very bottom of the palm, tip of thumb, and fingers white.

Carefully place the child’s hand on the paper, while keeping their fingers close together.  I used light brown paper so the white shows.  Once the paint is dry, add eyes, mouth and nose with a marker.

You can also cut this out and laminate to create an ornament.

Next is a hand print angel.  It’s made by painting one hand blue, or any other color of choice.  You place that print sideways with the thumb on top.  You then paint the right hand yellow and place it at an angle on top of the first hand.  Paint a circle in front of the sideways hand print for the head and add hair.  Add eyes and mouth once dry.

A hand print wreath is super easy and you can include multiple children.  Just paint the hands green and make a circle of hand prints.  Then let the kids add red berries using their fingertips and red paint.  Finish by painting a red bow on the bottom.

My favorite one is the Rudolph print because it includes a foot print and hand print.  First, paint your little one’s foot with brown paint.

Fotor1216185314

How cute are these tiny toes??  Place the foot on the paper with the toes pointing up.  The paint the right hand brown and place it on the top LEFT of the foot print.  Repeat with the left hand and place it on the right.  Use the child’s fingertip to put a red nose on the heel of the foot print.  Once dry, add eyes with a marker.  You can also use googly eyes if you’d like.

Make sure you write the date on your art work so you’ll always know just how old your kids were when they made them!  I look back at ones I made with my older boys and it makes me tear up to see their sweet little hand and foot prints!  Not only do the kids have fun making these, you also get some precious keepsakes!

I’m a picture fanatic.  I’m constantly snapping photos.  I love capturing fun times and I figure my kids are only little once and I want to have pictures to go along with the memories.  I love finding great ways to display our photos.  Plak That allows you to create beautiful wood prints using your own favorite photos.  They are a family-owned company based in Ocean City, MD and all prints are made in the USA.  The process is super easy and quick.  You just upload your picture to the site, add text if you’d like and choose which size you want.  They offer 7″ x 7″, 10.5″ x 16.6″, 14″ x 10.5″, and 18.5″ x 27.5″ plaks.  They can also do custom sizes.  Lighter color or black and white photos work best.  Of course, I chose a picture of my kids!

I love it!  I really like how the grain of the wood shows through.  It creates a print with a lot of character.

Fotor1206192434

Each print has horizontal supports to allow for easy hanging.

After seeing how great my piece turned out, I would love to create more!  It is truly a high quality piece of art!  The Plak That website has many of their own designs that you can purchase.  I especially love their beach and nature themed prints.

Aren’t they stunning?  If you’re looking for inspiration, you’ll definitely find it here!  I’m already planning for photos I’d like to use!  With Christmas fast approaching, you may still be looking for just the right gift for someone on your list.  A print from Plak That would make a wonderful, personal gift!  What better way to commemorate a special occasion or bring back wonderful memories than by giving a print that will last a lifetime?  And if you order by December 16th, you can still receive your print by Christmas!

One very lucky reader will win two 7″ x 7″ prints from the generous people at Plak That!  That’s a $50 value!

For years I have longed for Christmas artwork to deck my halls.  My husband hates the idea of buying decorations that sit in storage 11 months out of the year and I am one of the least artistic people I know.  However, I saw a painting in a magazine or in an email and thought…”Hey! I bet my kids could do that!”  So I challenge you: pack up your Type A personality and break out the paints and make some easy Christmas art for kids!

easy christmas art for kids

First choose your canvas.  Ours are big!  The one we used is 16×20.   Next take a pencil and trace where you want the string of lights.  After you are happy with the strand, go back and add small little marks to show where your kids should place the light bulbs.  Mix up some gray paint and paint the strand of lights.   Then your kids are ready to get busy!

We made 24 marks, so 24 lights.  We chose 6 colors of paint, so each girl was in charge of 12 lights…2 of each color.  We poured paint onto the plate.  Then they experimented on paper to see what looked best.  They tried painting their thumbs and making prints vs. dipping their thumbs into paint.  Dipping their thumbs into the paint definitely worked best (we were using Tempura paints).  This entire process took less than 30 minutes (including clean up)!

The end result?  One AWESOME piece of artwork to hang every year (that cost under $10) AND that was made by my girls!  And two very proud artists!

I’ve said before that I love taking pictures.  To me, there’s no better way to decorate our home than with family pictures.  So, I was excited to work with Gallery Direct again.  They carry a huge selection of fine art, available on several materials.  You can also have your own pictures printed as well.  It’s been a year since we did a family picture so I chose to get a new one printed on canvas to hang above our fireplace.  I gathered the kids together, told them to put on clean clothes and head outside.  We sat the camera on a stool and used the timer to take about 40 pictures.  The kids were troopers and we finally got a decent one.

I also got a print just of the kids that I took over the summer.

The process on Gallery Direct was super easy.  I chose my photo and uploaded it.  I then chose which material I wanted it printed on.  You can choose from canvas, paper, aluminum, Acrylic, mirror, or birchwood.  The last time I worked with Gallery Direct, I chose birchwood for my artwork.  It turned out really well and I loved the effect.  This time I chose the canvas option.  The site shows you a preview of how your photo will look on each material.  Next I chose the size.  I went with large (40×21) since it would hang above the fireplace.  That was it!  Shipping was super fast!  I had my order in only 5 days!  The canvases turned out SO good!

Fotor1117202712 Fotor1117202747

The colors are so vibrant and the pictures are nice and clear.  I am thrilled with them!

Fotor1117202821

The canvases have wire hangers on the back to make it easy to display them.

Fotor1117202926

I have always wanted a large family photo to hang above the mantle and now I have one!  I love having it as a focal point in our living room.  I smile every time I look at it!

As I mentioned before, Gallery Direct also has many works of art that you can have printed.  They have every thing from animals and landscapes to pop art and Vincent van Gogh.  They truly have something for every style and taste!  Gallery Direct will be offering gift cards very soon so if you have someone on your list that loves art, be sure to check it out!

One very lucky reader will win a $125 gift code to Gallery Direct!
