As a member of Booksneeze I selected the book The River by Michael Neale to review. The River is a book about a young man named Gabriel Clarke. As a young boy he grew up along the banks of a river. Around age 5 he witnessed a tragedy that changed his life forever and took him away from the river. He spends the rest of his boyhood years with his mom in Arizona, far away from the river. After high school events in his life lead him back to the river to confront the tragedy he has been hiding from his entire life.
I read this book in one sitting. Mostly because my daughter had to take a test and we were supposed to remain on site for 2 hours! I found the book easy to get into and easy to follow. Neale does a good job of developing Gabriel and the other secondary characters as well. I love reading Christian fiction books and The River was ok but not my favorite. There was nothing really wrong with it, but for a Christian book it rarely mentions God, instead I believe, it was supposed to be an analogy that the River was like God. I have never been big on books like that. I did read it and it was clean and easy to read. But just not my favorite.
