I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
Where did the summer go? If you figure that out please let me know. What I do know is that it is time to go back to school. Even though we home-school we still have to get ready and we definitely get excited for that first day of school.
Here are some easy tips for making sure you get your school year off to a great start:
1. Get on schedule NOW! Don’t wait until the week before school starts to start thinking of your schedule. Back it up 3-4 weeks. 3 weeks out make sure your kids are going to bed on time again. 2 weeks out make sure you start waking them up close to the time they need to be up on a school day. The week before school have them completely on schedule again. This will truly help them be ready for that first day.
2. Start your homework! Sure, this will not get you the “Parent of the Year” award from your kids, but a few weeks before going back to school have your kids do some homework. It can be math flash cards, spelling games, online educational games or even board games. But do something to get them back into learning mode.
3. Get your supplies and triple check your list! Even with home-school we have certain supplies we need. I love getting them early and being prepared. This also means making sure we have plenty of healthy snacks on hand. Make sure you have all your supplies, go ahead and get that backpack packed and loaded, sharpen those pencils and make sure everything works! This will help you be fully prepared for that first day.
I know most of these tips are just common sense but if you are like me…I always appreciate a reminder. When you are purchasing your supplies, it is also a great time to remember that not every child can afford their school supplies. That is why Boys and Girls Clubs of America have partnered with Disney to donate free school supplies to children nationwide. Now through Sept. 3rd you can play a game and get free supplies donated! I know it sounds too good to be true, but it isn’t! Simply visit the Boys and Girls Clubs of America website, click on the link that says “Ready, Set, GIVE” and play a game. For every 5 correct answers you give on the quiz, school supplies will be donated. In less than 2 minutes I had plated and answered enough correct that supplies were donated…twice!
Will you take the quiz and get some free supplies donated too?
