We are a household of animal lovers. When my husband and I first got married, we lived in an apartment and couldn’t have pets. When we moved to Florida 8 months later, we made sure to look for a rental that would allow cats and dogs. We actually stopped at the animal shelter before the moving truck even arrived and adopted our cat Jackson and our dog Sammie. Unfortunately we lost our beautiful Jackson two years ago but our sweet Sammie is still trucking along almost 16 years later! Our “first baby” is showing her age with her gray hair and she may need some help getting up and down stairs, but she’s still a huge part of our family.
She has welcomed all 6 of our kids home from the hospital and has moved with us 7 times over the years. She is the most gentle, loving dog and she’s adored by everyone.
A couple of months ago, we stopped by our local animal shelter to see about volunteering with our 12-year-old and we ended up coming home with Lucy!
We took one look at her sweet face and fell in love. She’s an awesome dog and has blended right in, joining Sammie and our other two rescue cats, Daisy and Polly.
As an animal lover, it breaks my heart to see all those lonely dogs and cats in the shelter who so desperately want a family to love them. So many are there through no fault of their own and would make terrific pets. Unfortunately, only 30 percent of pets in homes come from shelters and rescue organizations. Worse, an estimated 2.7 million healthy pets remain in shelters each year. So when I learned about Operation ResCUTE, I was super excited to share their message!
This book-and-plush set stars the true-life-story of Jingles, a homeless puppy in New York City that gets to live happily ever after.
This cute story shows kids that there are many dogs out there in shelters just waiting for a home of their own.
Not only did the kids love reading the story and snuggling with Jingles, they were also happy to know that the set was helping homeless doggies. Founded in 2014 by Laurie Brown-Nagin, 100% of Operation ResCUTE profits go directly toward helping shelter dogs get adopted. I absolutely love what this non-profit is doing. So many shelters are underfunded and need help. Operation ResCUTE is helping these shelters find loving homes for lonely pups.
Operation ResCUTE sets provide a win-win situation. Children get a great book with a wonderful message along with a snuggly plush puppy to love on and shelter dogs get the help they so desperately need.
The second in the ResCUTE series, The Story of Tanner, is set to launch during the holidays and will similarly share the true-life tale of a three-week-old shelter puppy that tries to escape and ends up finding her forever home with a loving couple. In addition, those that do rescue a shelter buddy are encouraged to submit their four-legged friend’s story online. The first winner chosen from online submissions was “Hudson” who will be ResCUTE character #3 in the series. Owners of adopted shelter dogs can send in a picture of their dog along with a detailed description of their own rescue story. He or she could be ResCUTE character #4! I love hearing real life rescue stories!
I am SO thankful that we found our fur babies and that they were able to become part of our family. So many of our good memories include them.
Operation ResCUTE sets retail for $29.99 and would make wonderful, meaningful gifts for little ones! Pick one up today and help save a pup in need! You can also connect with them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. One lucky reader will win an Operation ResCUTE Jingles set.
