I have played music for all of my kids while pregnant. I think it’s a great way to bond and relax with my growing baby. It has so many benefits for my little one. In the past I’ve just used headphones but that’s not always easy or convenient. That’s were itummy comes in. This is from their site:
“In 2008 we were expecting our first beautiful baby. We were overjoyed with the thought of being new parents. We feel that it is the greatest gift we could give one another. How the itummy all started is during a typical doctor’s appointment, we were informed that our baby was in a breech position. Not the most optimal birthing position, the doctor had recommended that we play music for the baby by putting speakers down at the bottom of my tummy. The baby would supposedly follow the music and turn head down to the proper position.
We thought this sounded a little ridiculous but followed the recommendation anyway. During our next visit, we were surprised to find out that the baby had in fact turned head down and was fully engaged for birthing. We would have never guessed that something so simple as playing music would have such a profound effect. We were completely amazed! This prompted us to investigate what other benefits music would have on babies in the womb.
As it turns out, the benefits are numerous and include: brain stimulation, relaxation, sound associations, and for us, visible reactions that we can attribute to different types of music & sounds. It was then that the light bulb went off and we found our selves wondering if there was a comfortable mommy & baby friendly product, suited for this purpose. Well now there is, in the itummy. The most unique prenatal band available with speakers that brings music to both mother & baby offering a variety of simple, safe, and progressive benefits through music. Welcome to the Musical Womb!”
I was excited to review the itummy maternity band! I was a little worried because the Large band says it’s for pre-pregnancy pants size 8-10 and I’m a 12. I was pleased to find that it fit perfectly though and has plenty of stretch.
The two speakers are located at the bottom center on the band with the wires going up to the top.
There’s a little pouch at the top for you to place your iPod or mp3 player.
The band is really comfortable. It’s made up of an 80% Nylon and 20% Spandex Lycra material. I actually forget I’m even wearing it. This is SO much better than using headphones! It’s nice to have the freedom to move around and do things while I play music for the baby. In fact, I’m playing music for the baby as I write this review! I also have to add that like the founders of the company, I delt with a breech baby with my second son. Like them , I tried everything possible to get him to flip. This included playing music and having my hubby talk to the baby down low. Thankfully, something we did worked because at almost 37 weeks(and 9lbs!), he flipped head down! I really wish I would have had this band back then! On another note, I like that this nice long band doubles as a belly band!
itummy also offers Hot Mama Hot Pads which are great for shoulder and lower back pain, menstrual cramps and breastfeeding issues. And if you need some great music to play for your baby, they offer a couple of great cd’s with calming, relaxing music.
