Howard B. Wigglebottom Review & Giveaway (US/Canada) 8/13
We love books in our house. The boys are always bringing us books to read and the older boys even love reading to the younger ones. Books that help teach lessons are really great in my opinion. It’s great when a story helps reiterate things we are teaching our kids. The Howard B. Wigglebottom books from the We Do Listen Foundation do an excellent job of this! The We Do Listen Foundation provides fun, educational books, videos, games, and songs, that help children listen, learn important life lessons, and feel good about themselves. The Howard B. Wigglebottm series offers books about sportsmanship, learning to listen, Bullying, and Anger, just to name a few. I choose to review “Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back”. This book deals with telling the truth.
Throughout the story, Howard faces situations where he has to make a choice. Should he lie or tell the truth? He soon learns that when he doesn’t listen to his conscience the weight, or monkey, on his back grows bigger and bigger. My kids couldn’t wait to read their new book.
Telling the truth can be a hard concept for kids to grasp. This book did and excellent job of explaining it on a level they could understand. The illustrations in the book were really well done and the length of the story was perfect. It kept their attention the whole time. When he was done reading the story, my husband went over the lesson with the boys. They were able to tell him what wrong choices Howard had made and what he had to do to resolve them. The book included a section in the back called “Suggestions for Lessons and Reflections” which helps parents build on the lesson of the story. I was super impressed with the book and plan to get more from the Howard B. Wigglebottom series.
Check out the We Do Listen Foundation’s website to see all the books in the series and to access FREE games, animated books, songs and coloring pages! One lucky reader will win a Howard B. Wigglebottom book of their choice!
